What is Diabetrol SR Tablet?
Diabetrol SR Tablet is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Insulin, a hormone produced by the body metabolizes sugar in the blood. When the body does not produce insulin in the required amounts, the blood sugar level in the body increases. This results in diabetes.
A diabetic patient has to maintain his blood sugar levels by following a healthy lifestyle like avoiding sugar in food. Diabetrol SR Tablet activates the pancreas to secrete more insulin. This medication is taken alongside a healthy diet. More insulin helps to reduce the level of sugar in the blood.
How Diabetrol Tablet SR works?

Glibenclamide is a sulfonylurea which works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower the blood glucose. Metformin is a biguanide which works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin.

- Yellowing of skin and eyes
- Dark colored urine
- Fever or chills
- Swelling of face, lips, eyelids, tongue, hands and feet
- Unusual bleeding
- Fast heartbeat
- Unusual tiredness and weakness
Taking glibenclamide metformin with alcohol can cause lactic acidosis and you may experience malaise, respiratory distress, slow or irregular heartbeat, sleepiness, stomach upset, or other unusual symptoms.
Diabetrol SR Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
glibenclamide metformin dose is probably unsafe to use in patients with kidney disease and should be avoided. Please consult your doctor.
Diabetrol SR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Diabetrol SR Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
glibenclamide metformin cipla is generally started with low dose in patients with mild to moderate liver disease and its use is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.
